Painting day at the OCP
Today we painted, I did some splatter painting as well as some abstract painting. It was mainly a good opportunity to express myself using a medium I'm not as familiar with. This was our last craft day with Carmela for awhile and she will be missed. Thanks for all your creative energy Carmela! I've enjoyed crafting and creating with you these last months. Don't stop creating!

Outdoor Sculpture day!
One thing I've always wanted to do is to create an outdoor sculpture using found objects. Today I accomplished that goal! Carmela and I made two outdoor sculptures at the OCP using mainly old bicycle parts that were being discarded. I'm very proud of our sculptures. I think there were successful. I'm only sorry more people didn't join us.

Today, I worked on a creation in progress again... I'm working on knitting a sweater. I must finish before the cold leaves and yet I urge the cold to leave soon! I also worked on a quilt I'm making at sewing night. Does it count to not finish creations that day?

Happy Valentine's Day!!! Usually I babysit and have to create on my own, but I wasn't needed as a babysitter today so I got to create with everyone else. We made more roses...this time out of chocolate candies. I also made a lovie dovie card for Matthew. On a side note-it was warm and sunny and I feel joyful again.

more creating for photo project...and I got some film developed and prints made for a different photo project (which you can see at Baroque if you come) anyway creating in progress
Feb. 12, 2011
Today I began creating for a photo project I'm working on. I recently saw the movie American Beauty (good film, but dark). My favorite scene in that movie has a quote that goes something like "Sometimes my heart becomes so overwhelmed by the beauty in the world I think it will burst". Anyway, I've been feeling depressed and this was good for me to hear... I've started photographing seemingly insignificant but stunningly beautiful moments... for example the leaf that landed on the pavement just so or the way the light falls on the back of the sofa... so that's a creation in progress, little beautiful moments.
"I will go plant little flowers."
-Timbre
I forgot to tell you... I went caving and inside the cave there was a mud room...the mud was the consistency of clay and reminded me of my ceramics class. I made two birds and a nest and left them there for the next adventurers. I can't believe I forgot that.

Valentines Day is right around the corner, so we had to do something for that right. So, Friday, we made paper roses and cards. I enjoyed bringing a small bouquet home to my husband.

have you noticed I'm not so good at daily blogging? I'm not good at many things, but that's often a major downfall for online projects. So Thursday the 10th...
well that was a sort of lame craft time, but thank you Billy for coming! Billy came to join us with the hopes of making music from found items around the OCP...cool idea right, well everyone was busy getting ready for the local foods guy talk so it wasn't very creative friendly atmosphere. We had fun...I had to go home and create something to make up for it.

Winter's bringing me down...I always get a little sad in winter time and I'm feeling the winter blues. Spring come quickly....please. But that's unrelated... or is it? mood often effects creations...
Yesterday, Mario helped us make origami. We tried to make origami roses for Valentines day and that got a little complicated...then we made beating hearts, swans, and butterflies. Thanks Mario! It was a fun day.

Tuesday. (in case you're wondering why I didn't create at the OCP...Monday's and Tuesday's I babysit so I'm left to create on my own). I created more paper beads... I need a lot. I also worked on the sweater I'm knitting, but I didn't finish.
Upcoming creation days at the OCP: Today, we are making origami! Thursday, Billy will be helping us make music from found objects at the OCP...bring your dancing shoes! and I'm still trying to decide what we'll create Friday... I feel like painting if I can get some paint by then...perhaps a sculpture garden from found objects?

Monday:
A day that is painfully hard at times to get yourself going that is. I created paper beads for a necklace that I'm working on and I wrote this:
The sound the scissors
made cutting the fabric
reminded me
of my childhood.
inspired by Abby from church.

Superbowl Sunday. I tried to create some paper chains that turned out alright. I then created my own touchdown dance which I was too embarrassed to share... is it creating if nobody experiences it but you??

Saturday! Wonderful wonderful Saturday!
I created two meals for my wonderful husband...that doesn't always happen. I also tried my had at flash writing which is something a dear friend introduced me too. It's where you try and tell a story with only one sentence. very hard. My best effort became this: She left him in the night. Not a happy story. There's always hope for reconciliation so never fear.

sorry this post is so delayed. No excuses to be made only creations, so I'll catch you up to speed on what we've been creating.
Friday was kite making day with Mario and it was fun! My kite was more decorative than functional, but I did test it out in the parking lot and it awoke in me childhood days of chasing fireflies and dancing in the yard for the sake of dancing. Pure bliss.

Crochet day that became Scratching Day!
so, we were supposed to learn how to crochet but that didn't happen as planned so instead we learned about scratching. Scratching is where you take a light colored crayon and fill in the paper with color then you keep doing getting darker each time until the top layer is black (or dark blue). Then, you scratch an image onto your paper. and voila! it's pretty cool and very simple. I had never done this before so what a fun creating experience. It made me think of monotypes (which is something I'd like to do for one of the days...I'll let you know when).

Poetry Day!
I love poetry. I took a poetry class in college and in high school and needless to say...was greatly looking forward to this day! Turnout was a small, but it was beautiful to create.
Here are some of the poems I wrote:
Craft Time Lady
the woman wears a sweater
with a patchwork heart
in the middle
she laughs loud and long
her head thrown back
and she is joyful
Untitled
slowly pushing the squeaky cart
down the aisle
of the grocery store
examining the produce
onions, potatoes, apples, carrots
an old man
dressed in a green knit sweater
with patches on the elbows
and a black felt hat
is picking up a grapefruit
next to me
perhaps he'll eat it for breakfast
Shirley, she said
"When I was a young girl
we wore feedsack dresses
cut from a pattern passed down
and around
the neighborhood"
and a haiku.... entitled
The Dog
the dog ran outside
he saw a red fire hydrant
he lifted his leg

Create a thing a Day Day 1!
So, yesterday (sorry if you came at 3pm and were disappointed... like many things in my life I got a little behind schedule), a few of us created a poster to get everyone excited about creating potential and to share ideas of what we could create. It's a fun, colorful and bright poster...hopefully it sparks some excitement. On my own personally, I drew a picture in a cubist style and attempted to draw my self portrait (it turned out pretty miserable I must say). Today at 3pm we will be writing poetry with Rahni! I love poetry and am very excited. I spent all morning brainstorming writing topics while making sandwiches at Bowl of Good, I think my writing juices are flowing... Tomorrow Mario is going to teach us how to crochet and then on Friday, Mario is going to teach us how to make kites...I know it's a little cold still for kite flying, but it sure sounds like a spirit lifter (get it??).
Keep creating even if you can't join us at the OCP, but if you can I hope to see you there!
Your friend, Rachel
